Who sees who decides who shoots
Vision, radar & stealth
Every living unit, HQ, depot you own and building you placed lights up the map. Radar reveals subs at long range, and gives +16% weapon range inside 8 tiles of the tower. A submerged I-400 still scouts about 8.0 tiles — and is almost invisible.
At a glance
- What sees
- Living units + your HQ + depots you own + buildings you placed
- Radar — spotting
- Lights enemy subs at long range (about 8 tiles) for a short window
- Radar — shooting
- Small +16% weapon range inside 8 tiles of a Radar
- Submerged sub
- Still scouts about 8.0 tiles, but stays almost invisible until it surfaces or is revealed
- Garrison
- Small range bump and 40% less shell damage in ruins/towns — not enough to outrange a tank
Line of sight
You see what your units, HQ, depots, and buildings can see right now, plus fog you have already cleared. Radar extends sub detection at long range when you build a Radar Tower.
How vision works
Each team remembers every tile it has ever seen, and which units it can see right now. Anything your forces, HQ, depots or buildings can cover lights up. A submerged sub is skipped — it doesn't show up unless it's recently surfaced or a Radar just lit it.
| Spotter | Sight range |
|---|---|
| Maus tank | Far — about 5.6 tiles |
| Berliet truck | About 5.2 tiles |
| EM-2 rifle | About 5.4 tiles |
| Rotkäppchen AT | Far — about 5.8 tiles |
| G11 MG | About 5.6 tiles |
| Sea Shadow boat | Very far — about 6.4 tiles |
| Cutter boat | Very far — about 6.4 tiles |
| Aquila drone | About 6.0 tiles |
| Sub — submerged | About 8.0 tiles |
| Sub — surfaced/revealed | About 8.0 tiles |
| HQ | Huge — about 7.6 tiles |
| Depot you own | About 4 tiles |
| Any building / Radar building | About 5 / 6.2 tiles |
| XR311 jeep (reserve) | Far Scout — about 7.3 tiles |
Radar — two jobs
A Radar Tower is your sub alarm and a short-range firing aid. Every tick it lights any enemy sub within long range so you can shoot it for a short window. Its weapon range bonus is +16% for shooters within 8 tiles of the tower, not across the map. Radar still hard-counters coastal missiles because of the reveal, but don't park a gun line far away and expect extra reach.
Garrison and smoke
Duck infantry into a ruin or town and it takes about 40% less damage from shells and gets a small range bump — enough to hold a depot, but a rifle inside still can't outshoot a Maus. It's a bunker, not a sniper tower. A Maus that backs up pops smoke for just under two seconds that hides it from direct fire at medium range.
Seeing subs
Submerged subs are the sneakiest unit in the game: they still scout about 8.0 tiles, and you must be within long Radar range or catch them surfaced to see them at all. Once lit, they're surfaced for about half a second more — enough for a Sea Shadow or a Maus on the beach to get a shot. Fire a missile and you surface yourself, so slide after you shoot.
